The Stingrays welcomed Romsey on Sunday in the first cup game of the season. Playing against a well organised and strong team, the Stingrays took hold of the game from the start scoring two quick tries in the first 5 minutes. Romsey though soon fought back in what ended up being a free-flowing end to end game. Great defence and rucking by the Stingrays ensured they secured the majority of breakdowns turning over the ball multiple times, ending the first half 26-5.
Again, as per the first half, the second half saw the Stingrays take the game to Romsey. Defence again was key, with some massive tackles going in to thwart the Romsey attack. By using the width and shipping the ball wide, the Stingrays had a flurry of tries to seal the game, with the final score line being 55-12.
Man of the match went to Theo whose is work rate was phenomenal, making tackle after tackle, supporting the rucks, and scoring two tries.
Training at home next week to work on the areas the players have identified and know needs a focus, but they can all have a rest for a few days knowing that they all put maximum effort into the game and be quite rightly proud of what they achieved.
