Patricia Smith-Roché takes over the reins as Paul moves to the post of Immediate Past President, continuing on the executive committee and as MC at the League Lunches.
"I've really enjoyed being the club President but I believe the time is now right for a change at the helm and I am delighted that Patricia has agreed to take on this role.
"Patricia has been a long time supporter and major sponsor and has a wealth of business experience to bring to the table in continuing to develop this wonderful family rugby club.
"I am confident that the membership and the Executive Committee will continue to give her the support I have had the pleasure of experiencing and I wish Patricia every success in her new role. I will continue to assist her in my position as the Immediate Past President."
Said Patricia: "I'm thrilled to become President. "I'm a doer and I like to get things done."
Patricia came to the UK in 1996 from her Chicago home to take over distribution for Ty UK Ltd. part of a worldwide operation which she eventually sold back to the parent Ty company in 2005.
She was introduced to Gosport & Fareham RFC by Colin Smith who was a Mini/Youth coach at the time - they are now husband and wife since marrying on the day that Portsmouth FC won the FA Cup in May 2008.
Even whilst a sponsor of Portsmouth Football Club during 2003-05, Patricia still maintained her sponsorship and enthusiastic support of Gos rugby.
"I suppose a woman being president of a rugby club is unusual especially an American from a country that doesn't exactly play a lot of rugby!
"But I've been involved with this club for a long time and I really think we have a chance to take this club places and that's what I plan to do with everyone's help!"
